Mykonos

Mykonos is a very upscale, glamorous, expensive, fabulous and fashionable island. It has a thriving party, club and gay scene which is kind of special for Greece. The first time we stopped through on a day trip and were not so charmed. The second time we came to see Sasha perform at a new club called VOID and it was a great show and super fun. We stayed at an awesome hotel up the hill from town which had an excellent souvlaki spot next to it we got to know quite well. Traveling through Greece and trying to maintain your weight is nearly impossible. The food is too damn delicious.

Walking in town through the plaza we ended up at  street bar Queen which looked like an upscale, white washed scene from Sodom and Gamora. Huge data flashes punctuate trashy electro while scantily clad waitresses served sixty to seventy year old men in silk shirts surrounded by ten to twenty twenty something girls all wearing the same outfits. It was a scene. We didn't last that long. On to the club.

We thought we were on time showing up to the club at midnight, yet the oh so chic door girls looked at us and laughed saying "the club does not even start until 3am".  We headed to a local Mexican bar blasting Despacito (which was playing EVERYWHERE) and continued drinking. By the time 3am rolled around we were feeling loose and headed to VOID. The club and sound system were tremendous. White Cycladic interior with Funktion One sound were a winning combination and within five minutes of entering Sasha approached the decks and we were off. Almost three hours of flawless Progressive House and Techno that in the interior felt like being on some perfect new planet or pill. It was an intimate crowd, mostly male and we were some of the only people dancing. Sasha has always been one of my all time favorite artists and it was such a blessing to be there and feel the music together with my love in Greece. We went home at 8am.

We had hopes of going out for night #2 because Adam Beyer was playing at Cavo Paradiso but we were finished. We slept until dark the next day and when we awoke we were feeling our age for sure. We went out for drinks and dinner and called it an early night. This was such a better run than last time in Mykonos. It has a beautiful town and goes off at night with some of the best people watching in Greece. Not as authentically Greek as the other islands as it caters mostly to well heeled International visitors but certainly worth an all out splurge and adventure.
